Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data has fundamentally transformed scientific practice and knowledge production. From the perspective of the philosophy of science, these technologies raise critical questions regarding the legitimacy of knowledge, objectivity, and epistemic authority. This study employs a qualitative philosophical approach through critical and reflective literature analysis to examine the epistemological, ontological, and axiological implications of AI and Big Data in contemporary science. The analysis reveals a significant shift from theory-driven scientific reasoning toward data-driven and algorithmic epistemologies, where correlation and prediction increasingly replace causal explanation and theoretical understanding. Furthermore, AI and Big Data contribute to ontological reductionism by representing reality as data and models, while also challenging claims of scientific neutrality due to embedded values, biases, and power structures within algorithmic systems. This study argues that AI and Big Data should be understood as epistemic instruments rather than final authorities of truth, thereby affirming the necessity of human rationality, ethical reflection, and philosophical critique in guiding scientific practice in the digital era.
